Dear Donators, Sponsors and Followers of Sreyka Smile,
I’d like to share with you exciting new developments regarding our association.
Recently we met with people from a locally established NGO that has run an orphanage annex school since 2006. This organization named COLT (Cambodian Organization for Living and Temporary-care) is exclusively supported by a Dutch charity foundation. This organization is sheltering some 30 children and offers on a daily basis free English language lessons to over 200 poor children from the neighborhood. They employ 8 local staff, who are coached by a Western couple already on the project since 2011, that also supervises the organizational, financial and administrative duties on behalf of the fundraising foundation in The Netherlands.
COLT is now in the process of moving site from the outskirts of Phnom Penh to a location some 12km South-West, where thanks to a generous donation from Hamburg, COLT been able to acquire a 6.600 m2 plot of land. They will relocate and establish a Community Centre surrounded by communities of poor people, many of whom are finding work at the nearby dumpsite. This Community Centre, housing the present number of children, will also include a Day Care Centre, medical center, school and sports facilities. Although the Western couple will leave early next year, they will be succeeded by another Western couple, who are already familiar with the project, thus assuring continuity and future stability.
In practical terms this means that a) Sreyka Smile saves the cost and trouble of monitoring projects on our own and b) establishes a Day Care Centre at low cost and with minimal managerial headache. Still, Sreyka Smile will be expected to contribute some $ 15.000 to $ 20.000 to the initial investment in the Day Care Centre situated under one roof with the medical center that will come at the expense of COLT.
Although we would be able to cover such an investment from our current reserves, we would be grateful if you together with Sreyka Smile would embrace this initiative and continue supporting us. A full document and the financial plan of this Day Care Center will be published soon.
As you know, I regularly visit Cambodia to monitor the projects we support. I have been joined by Clementine, who is living in Cambodia. Due to a change in personal circumstances, she has informed me that she will not be able to continue their membership on the council of our Sreyka Smile.
I continue to be passionately dedicated to achieving our mission and feel blessed that this partnership opportunity has a arisen as our cherished previous partners completed her service.
